The word “anxiety” is thrown around a lot. At times those casual uses of the word water down the potentially debilitating nature of fear for our kids.

Author Carter Weinstein struggle with separation anxiety began as his parents dropped him off at a sleepaway camp.

How many times have I pushed my children into uncomfortable situations, explaining that ‘he’ll be fine in a few minutes/hours/day’?

Most times, these nerves do subside. For some, though, they do not.

In a new book entitled, Conquering Fear: One Teen’s Guide to Overcoming Anxiety, Carter Weinstein takes the reader through a firsthand account of his journey in managing his crippling anxiety – fears that begin for him at an elementary school age.

I spoke to Weinstein about his book, here:

For me, the book as quick to read (nearly 100 pages) as eye-opening as I attempt to look for the signs of anxiety that Weinstein experienced in my children. These topics are not easy, not uniform, and certainly not something to dismiss – even for our littlest of kids.

Not only will Conquering Fear provide a parent awareness of an issue they are likely to face, the book provides tactical, real-world solutions for doing the consistent (and life-long) work of controlling extreme anxiety.

Weinstein is a 19-year-old college freshman – mature enough for have perspective but not so far removed to feel “preachy” or like clinician.

That unique point of view will allow this book to live on your bookshelf as a resource during all facets of your parenthood journey.
