ToBINs and OUTs: Quick notes and not-so-funny jokes:)

Thank you for faithfully reading, sharing, and telling your friends about my work over the past seven years. These Friday notes are quick-hitting topics that impact my parenthood but that stay just under the blog’s radar.

ICYMI, this week’s newest GBD piece talks about how an insightful question has me examining my guy friends. Check it out here.

Toby’s Top 10 Teen Speak Words

Using buzz words that teens do is a win-win: you can instantly embarrass them and, next, they will begin to use them less as you work them into your personal, daily repertoire. Here are a few favorites of mine:

  1. Literally – virtually NEVER used correctly
  2. Bro – every other word with both boys and girls
  3. Ops – used for any adult that could jeopardize a teen activity
  4. Cap – a lie or exaggeration
  5. Lit – used for cool or bad-ass
  6. Baddy – a nice looking girl
  7. Karen – a classic used for overbearing females
  8. Insta, Snap – shortening social media outlets is so uncool that you may actually see your teen put their phone down
  9. Simp – not 100% sure, but context tells me this is a guy that is overly smitten with a girl
  10. Chill – timeless reference to relaxing, but the kiss of death if any kid says this to my wife

Our first college visit

My incoming high school senior and I are headed a few hours south to check out our first university together. In preparation for the trip, I’ve looked at majors, costs, dorms, and the campus layout. My son, on the other hand, has done nothing. Well, that isn’t far, he did complain about getting up at 6:30 am so that we can make our 9 am bus tour. Man, let’s hope seeing the campus lights a fire of ambition! :/

Weekly Wrap Up

I cannot tell you how much it means that you’re continuing to read my work. The greatest compliment is that something you read here helps you feel less isolated and more capable. The momentum of the blog is (finally) starting to build, reaching more people in June than ever before!

Thanks for sharing, caring, and for coming back for more.

Best,

Toby
