After a long, difficult 2020 and early 2021, the global COVID-19 pandemic is showing signs of relenting. No matter how much we’d each like to avoid the topic, we must face the reality that the clouds of the virus will remain for a while – especially in our young children.
Parents of preschoolers understand well that the best learning often takes place when concepts are paired with catchy, recognizable songs. Our kids will not be able to put the lessons of the pandemic to bed and, as such, materials like The Teensy, Weensy Virus book and song provide a fun, interactive way for kids to heed the lessons they’ve learned through the toughest period of their young lives.
Not only has author Sherri Rose created a light-hearted way for parents to talk about the COVID-19 period with young children, these lessons are fortified by a parity of the “Itsy, Bitsy Spider” complete with hand motion for covering coughs and washing hands.
For a parent, the song and book may be a bit goofy, but, I’m telling you, young kids will respond to the less-serious-but-informative message it portrays.
I have COVID-19 fatigue.
So do my kids.
So might your’s.
But, the post-pandemic world will be different and we’ll need to prepare our littlest ones accordingly!
