Okay, okay, I’ve heard of Andy Warhol – but only really enough to know that Warhol is a famous artist.
So, based on my ignorance, I did not simply read “Art is Everywhere: A Book about Andy Warhol” by Jeff Mack to my youngest daughter, Emersyn, I was learning right alongside her.
When these situations take place – parents and kids learning together through reading – there is nothing better!
The colorful, brightly illustrated Children’s Book taught Emersyn and I about “Pop Art”, displayed some famous Warhol works, and explained the inspiration of many of the iconic artist’s ideas – even beginning with his work with in marketing with his mom.
There is more than art to the Warhol story. There’s mentions of Warhol’s affinity for standing out, for crazy hairstyles (and color and whigs), and for his ability to see creativity in the simplest of objects – all lessons our kids should heed.
As we finished the book, Emersyn asked me, “Dad, did he really paint a Spaghetti-O’s can?”
I knew the answer, but Googled it anyway.
We spent the next ten minutes looking at Warhol’s work. We were left laughing that we had learned something new together by reading Jeff Mack’s children’s book.
That’s the good stuff!
