Sit down Dad, we need to talk,
About the hurried way you eat, walk and talk.
I know I’m a kid and I have growing to do,
But my lil’ mind can’t ignore some changes in you.
Is life wearing you down or is it me?
If it makes your day better, I’ll just let you be.
As I stand here and see you looking so grey,
I have one piece of advice I’ll give you today.
Instead of giving advice, maybe parents should listen to us kids,
It seems like we really know what true living is.
Living, to us, is about fun, slides and swings,
Not about working for money to buy up more things.
Living, to us, is watching the sunset on the beach,
All while having a good friend’s hand within reach.
So, instead of explaining why,
I’d like you, Dad, to start saying “Goodbye.”
Goodbye to rushing,
Goodbye to this crazy pace,
Goodbye to missed dinners,
Goodbye to the distressed look on your face.
Goodbye to being cranky,
Goodbye to being gone,
Goodbye to being distant,
Goodbye to us feeling left alone.
So, again, please sit down Dad we need to agree,
About the Dad you’ve become and the one that you’ll be.
So when life gets busy and your smile might dim,
Your day will get better by taking advice from your kid.
